Dollhouse Stars Promise Racier Season 2

A short interview with TV Guide Magazine about what to expect from the upcoming season of Dollhouse -- there are some minor spoilers so beware -- sounds like a lot of fun! :)

It isn’t playtime in The Dollhouse anymore. Stars Eliza Dushku and Tamoh Penikett are promising that, after some growing pains in the freshman season, Dollhouse is darker, racier and rougher than ever for Season 2.

“I just finished episode 3 and I'm proud of the show already,” Dushku told TVGuideMagazine.com. “It's different, it's racier and it's deeper. We found that rhythm and now we're just blowing it out of the water.

“Everyone is really in their skin and comfortable playing around with the light and the dark,” she explained, noting series creator Joss Whedon nailed the show’s stride in its final first-season episode. “The cast all settled in to their roles, and then in the 13th episode things shot into the future and everyone got an idea where they might go - the dark places – and everyone came back with a confidence.”

That confidence meant a willingness to push the boundaries, action-wise: “I learned how to beat up boys using a private jet as a weapon,” she chuckles. “I beat these guys with a jet. I got married in one of the first episodes. I had beaucoup bruises and bumps and fights already.”

‘Dollhouse’ Posters

I've added a handful of posters to the gallery; 4 of which were leaked from 'Project FOX' -- a group where members can weigh in on marketing options for Dollhouse. However, FOX has signed off on one of these posters so it is now the official poster (my favourite one to boot!) thus a HQ version has also been added -- many thanks to The Live Feed. A preview is to your right & the gallery link is below, enjoy! :)

‘Dollhouse’ News

Things have been a little quiet lately since Eliza is busy filming the second season of Dollhouse (follow her official Twitter for Dollhouse related updates) but we do have a few new titbits regarding the upcoming season. :)

Jonathan Frakes (Commander William T. Riker, Star Trek: The Next Generation) is directing the next episode; believed to be episode 4, titled 'Belonging'

Alexis Denisof has been filming his episodes (4 planned so far!) & Amy Acker will be in the season 2 premiere

Other guest stars include Miracle Laurie (started filming this week) and Michael Hogan (Col Tigh, Battlestar Galactica) -- he'll be in the 2nd episode, along with Alexis.

According to SFX, season 2 will be airing in the UK on Sci Fi from Tuesday, October 20, 2009 -- kicking off with a double bill of the first 2 episodes then weekly thereafter.

TCA Press Tour

Thanks to Whedonesque for the heads up; we have positive feedback about Dollhouse & its second season at the TCA press tour from Kevin Reilly, Fox's Entertainment President and Peter Rice, Fox's Chairman - they may even order the back 9 episodes, which would make a full season of 22 episodes! Extracts are below. :)

In terms of the less than stellar Friday night ratings, Reilly says the deciding factor in picking up the show, was the devotion of the fans.

“The fans were there every week and that factored in,” says Reilly. “They nurtured the show and stuck with it -- a lot of fans [of other show] wouldn’t. They gave us a consistent rating and we felt it was enough of a base to give it another shot.”

Source: iFMagazine - also has a lengthier write-up and even mentions that we may get a third season of Dollhouse, however it looks to be an indirect quote so take with a pinch of salt. ;)

"Joss is an incredible creator of TV shows," countered Rice, "and the show got better and better as the season went on."

So what's Joss' mandate for Season Two? "Keep doing what he’s doing," said Rice of what Whedon would do for Dollhouse's sophomore season. "That is really the gift of Joss... he was open about those hiccups. In the second half, he really found the show and started having fun with it... It’s going to be much smoother sailing this year.”

The renewal of “Dollhouse” for a second season was due to the die-hard Joss Whedon fans, but Reilly swears that “it didn’t factor in from a fear place. It was more from a positive place. Those fans were there every week, and they stuck with it in a way that a lot of television fans don’t.” Now that he’s worked out the hiccups in the show, the official mandate for Season 2 of “Dollhouse” is for Joss to keep doing what he does.
