FOX has announced that they will be airing the new series with fewer commercial breaks; read on for the details.

Fox is shaking up the commercial TV model with “Remote-Free TV.”

At its upfront presentation Thursday, the network announced it will air two new drama series, J.J. Abrams’ Fringe and Joss Whedon’s Dollhouse, with dramatically reduced commercial breaks.

“It’s a simple concept and potentially revolutionary,” Fox Entertainment chairman Peter Liguori said. “We’re going to have less commercials, less promotional time, and less reason for viewers to use the remote. We’re going to redefine the viewing experience.”

Both shows would have network commercial loads of about five minutes per hour, about half the usual. The commercial pods would also be shorter and they would have about half the promo load as well.

It’s here! :D Thanks to the ever wonderful Dollverse for posting the trailer; related quote is below, and click on the link (opens in a new window) to view the trailer!

Glen Kasper, principal of Storm Studios, said “Joss has always been known to create intriguing, very detailed stories and worlds, so it was a challenging assignment to get all the layers and intricacies of the story into a 3 minute trailer”. STORM was cutting the trailer simultaneously as the pilot was being shot, so FOX could get the sneak of DOLLHOUSE out in time for it’s yearly upfront meeting in New York.

I’ve added over 100 MQ screencaptures to the gallery — it is so awesome; I feel compelled to keep watching it and I feel that it definitely has the potential to grow and do well. Oh, how I love Joss and Eliza. Gallery link and previews are below, enjoy! :)

I truly wasn’t expecting to see material this soon, but guess what!? FOX has released the first group shot of the cast; a solo shot of Eliza; AND the first still from the pilot — taken inside the Dollhouse itself. The images look gorgeous, especially Miss Eliza, and they are as exciting as hell! :D Gallery links and previews are below, enjoy! :)

Dollverse is reporting that the series has now been picked up for 13 episodes and that a trailer will be released shortly; I’m assuming it’s to promote the pilot episode, which as you know, is titled ‘Echo’ and wrapped filming last Friday. Can’t wait!

Be sure to check back for news — and, hopefully, screencaptures! — from the trailer. :)

EDIT: Another tidbit — the series goes back into production in July before the launch early next year. Hopefully, during that time, we’ll have brand new episode stills and such like!

Some exciting news about Dollhouse; straight from the horses mouth!

I spent a good while chatting with the one and only Joss Whedon (pinch me!), who told me they he just wrapped on the pilot shoot for Dollhouse Friday, and that he has a very good feeling about the series because “Eliza Dushku can play anything, and in this series, she does.” Can. Not. Wait. He also very kindly shared this info about the show:

• Joss directs the second episode as well as the finished-on-Friday pilot, just to get things rolling.
Sarah Fain and Elizabeth Craft are the show runners.
Steve DeKnight and Tim Minear are both consulting producers on the series.
• Tim is writing and directing the midseason two-parter, namely episodes seven and eight.
• Joss would love to get Jane Espenson to join the gang too, if he could, but she’s on Battlestar at the moment and the show’s budget might not permit it. (Is it just me or do you want to send Fox a check right about now?)
• As reported earlier this week, Dollhouse will go at midseason, and, according to Joss, it’s likely premiering in January.
• There is no Dollhouse presentation planned at the Fox event, but Eliza Dushku might appear on behalf of the show.
• Joss: “I’m still having so much fun. I keep waiting for it to not be fun anymore.”

Eliza is currently in NYC where she attended several events last night, most notably the ‘Entertainment Weekly & Vavoom Host Annual Upfront Party’ with brother Nate, as well as the ‘Official Concert After Party for Kanye West’ — I’ve added a mixture of MQ and HQ images to the gallery — I love Eliza’s dress, she looks gorgeous. Gallery links and previews are below, enjoy!

In other, related news, the pilot has wrapped filming and has been named ‘Echo’. Variety is also reporting that the series shall premiere January 2009, but confirmation of the exact date is expected tomorrow (May 15) in a press release, so be sure to check back for that! I’m also hoping that the cast of Dollhouse will make an appearance, so fingers crossed. ;)
