FOX has posted a new video from Dollhouse on their official MySpace — watch it here — which features a short interview with Eliza and Joss Whedon as well as some behind-the-scenes snippets from the filming of the pilot episode. It’s very cute, and well worth a watch! Screencaptures shall be added a.s.a.p. :)

Writer-producer Joss Whedon told SCIFI Wire that he hadn’t yet considered how his upcoming Fox SF series Dollhouse will be affected by the network’s decision to air episodes with far fewer commercials and in-house promos than most shows.

Dollhouse and J.J. Abrams’ in-the-works Fringe are both part of Fox’s Remote-Free TV experiment, which is designed to deter viewers from reaching for the remote control.

One unforeseen consequence: Producers will need to deliver extra minutes in each episode for its initial broadcast, then cut those minutes for the episode’s reruns, which will presumably carry more commercial interruptions.

“That’s a good point,” Whedon said when asked about it in New York last week at Fox’s upfront presentation to advertisers. “They didn’t bring up the repeats. But we have always had to cut out a couple of minutes for repeats. That’s always been the way. I don’t really deal with that that much. But they’ve also said, ‘We want longer versions for the DVD.’ So, ultimately, I tend to shoot long. Our shows tend to go long. Some come in short. It will happen. But generally they go long. So this just means a little less heartache in the editing room.”

Take an exclusive sneak peek at ”Dollhouse,” the ”Buffy” creator’s mind-bending new series starring Eliza Dushku

By Jeff Jensen

Tucked in a dark room in a spa-like L.A. set, Eliza Dushku (Buffy the Vampire Slayer) lies on a table, grimacing as a gizmo pulses light on her temples. It’s not erasing unsightly laugh lines, but rather her entire memory. But you’ll want to remember this: She’s shooting the pilot for Fox’s Dollhouse (which will premiere in early 2009), the first new show from Buffy creator Joss Whedon since Firefly flickered out in 2003. Evoking memories of Alias, Samantha Who?, The Pretender, and Total Recall — then wiping them away with the promise of Whedon’s distinctively hilarious, humane, high-strange vision — Dollhouse follows Dushku’s Echo, a mysterious agent with no identity except for the personalities imprinted on her and then deleted by her employer depending on the wishes and needs of wealthy clients. Between assignments, Echo lives inside a cushy secret HQ with other blank-slate dolls in a state of oblivious, hyper-healthy bliss…though as the series unfolds, she’s starting to remember stuff she shouldn’t.

Whedon says that, like Buffy and Firefly, Dollhouse aspires to be both deep (how does society shape, influence, ”program” the individual: discuss!) and fun. A typical episode will see Dushku cycle through three to four personas, making for a wild mix of moods and genres. ”The other day I shot scenes for a 1940s musical dance number and a Mexican spaghetti Western — just for the pilot episode,” says Whedon, kicking back on a plush couch under the stairwell of Dollhouse’s set. Says Dushku: ”It’s really perfect for my personality, which is kind of ADD. It’s nice to not have the same wardrobe every day.”

Dollverse has re-uploaded the trailer, which has had a “paint job” — I, for one, prefer this one over the previous trailer as it seems a smoother cut; and although some scenes were lost, plenty of new ones were also added — bonus! ;) Click on the link to view the trailer, which opens in a new window. Gallery link and previews are below, enjoy!

Time for another news round-up! Exciting news so be sure to take a moment to read. :)

• The launch of Dollhouse has been confirmed to be mid-January; Mondays at 8pm. It will act as a lead in to 24, which will start it’s seventh season.

• As previously mentioned, the episode order has been increased from 7 to 13, but there is also room for expansion to 22 episodes, if required.

• Again, as previously mentioned, because of the fewer ad breaks each episode will now run for 50 minutes, as opposed to the usual 42 minutes.

• And finally, Canadian network CanWest has picked up the show and will be airing a similar slot to the US. The second pickup so far is Australia.

If you live outside the US, now is the time to let broadcasters know that you want them to air Dollhouse! They start visiting the LA Screenings shortly, which is where they make programme purchases.

And the goodies keep rolling in; we are truly getting spoiled right now!

/Film has an extensive post featuring artwork, trailers, images AND clips from both Fringe and Dollhouse. The clip features a scene between Echo (Eliza) and FBI Agent Paul Smith (Tahmoh Penikett); it looks to be their first meeting together, and definitely looks very exciting!

You can view the clip (opens in a new window) and/or screencaptures in the gallery; previews are below, enjoy! :)
