Synopsis
A biopic on iconic photographer Robert Mapplethorpe, who died of AIDS in 1989 at age 42 before posthumously snagging national headlines in the ’90s for his highly stylized black-and-white portraits of naked men and oddly erotic flowers.
Mapplethorpe's collection, which featured homoerotic shots of naked men performing various S&M acts involving whips and leather, was supported by the National Endowment for the Arts and sparked a national debate on public funding for the arts.
